Renewable Energy

We do not have an energy technology problem. Wind, hydro, geothermal, biomass and solar are all ready to come online and can provide all of Australia's energy needs. The mix depends on where we live. There are exciting possibilities in and around Bendigo already.

Exciting Bendigo Renewable Energy Possibilities:

1. Put solar PV panels on the roof and watch your energy meter spin backwards. You'll even be paid for your investment witha feed in tariff.

2. The Central Victoria Solar Cities PV park will be launched this year and Bendigo residents can at first lease some of this green power then will have first option to buy into the community owned venture.

3. For under $0.06 per Kilowatt hour, we can buy accredited and audited GreenPower from our electricity retailer.

4. Hot water is usually around a third of the average bill - switch to solar!

5. Urban wind power is being manufactured here in Bendigo too. Altaus Pty. Ltd. has developed a micro wind turbine capable of generating electricity in an urban environment.  The current 1kw device stands approximately 8 feet tall, and is made of lightweight marine-grade aluminium.  Its patented cylindrical design fesign features only two moving parts, allowing the device to operate at an inaudible noise level and at speeds much slower than those required by conventional wind turbines.  The device has been designed to operate at 100% efficiency in wind speeds of 5.5 metres per second, similar to winds experienced in an urban environment.

Fossil Fuels are a cost to Bendigo that we could do without

Aside from climate change, coal, oil and gas are not made in Bendigo, do not provide any jobs (funny fact: Bunnings employs more Australians than the Coal Industry!), or any potential jobs. They come at a cost to every home and business in the community. We are already making wind turbines here and could set ourselves up to grow our economy through renewable energy manufacturing, local renewable energy projects and local energy efficiency projects.
